This mirror was made in Venice in the second half of the 18th century. The frame, made of carved and gilded wood, exhibits the characteristics of Venetian Rococo.
The inner wooden band, with 90-degree angles in the lower portion and with a curved and arched profile in the upper portion, is carved with vegetal bas-reliefs. A rich crest at the top encloses another mirror. Rich openwork scrolls, rocaille and phytomorphic elements create movement and make the mirror slender and graceful. A floral valve crowns the entire piece. At the bottom, the frame includes a small mirror, while carved friezes with flowers, leaves, and rocaille scrolls continue along the sides.
This mirror of modest size, very refined and with great decorative impact, can be easily placed in various environments, above antique consoles or chests of drawers, but also in contexts characterized by modern furnishings.
The mirror is antique and original and therefore shows the correct blackening of the surface due to the alteration and oxidation of the mercury. This peculiarity, which limits the reflectivity of the mirrored surface, gives great charm and authenticity to this mirror.
