Pair of Baroque center stools in carved and gilded wood, Louis XIV-Louis XV, France
Period: First half of the 18th century
Pair of important French Baroque center stools in carved and gilded wood, made between the Louis XIV and Louis XV periods, characterized by an unusually large size for this type of piece, making them particularly striking and versatile in contemporary or classic settings.
The structure features a beautiful, slightly flared and arched frieze, with a sinuous profile on all four sides, richly carved with foliage motifs, volutes, and cartouches, typical of French taste between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The four sinuous and curved uprights, carved with phytomorphic elements, terminate in elegant scroll feet turned inwards, a refined solution that visually lightens the volume and emphasizes the overall movement of the base. The antique gilding, with its natural patina of age, enhances the depth of the carving and lends great luminosity to the pieces. The padded seats are upholstered in crimson velvet, easily replaceable as the cushion is designed to be removable, a practical detail that facilitates any intervention. This feature, combined with the generous dimensions, makes the stools ideal as seating at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, in front of a fireplace, or as decorative elements, footrests, or extra seating in a living room. The quality of the carving, the antique gilding, and the rare size place them in a high-level category of decorative furniture, perfect for collectors seeking a French touch with strong impact yet functional.
A conservative restoration will be carried out shortly.
