Baroque chest of drawers in carved and gilded wood, Sicily, mid-18th century Measurements: cm W 128 x D 54 x H 86 Price: by private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity This Baroque chest of drawers, in finely carved and gilded wood, was made in Sicily around the mid-18th century. It features a curved body, dynamic on the sides and front, and two drawers with gilded bronze locks, chased with rocaille motifs. The original top is made of shaped Lumachella di Sciarra marble. The chest rests on four sabre legs that follow the dynamic curve of the stiles, creating a sinuous and elegant movement. The entire front and side surface is richly gilded, on a red bole base, and carved with a repeated, overlapping semicircular motif reminiscent of fish scales, creating a dense and luminous rhythmic texture. Rocaille volutes and floral cartouches, scenes of musicians and small birds, characteristic decorations of the period, appear in the center and along the borders. This chest of drawers, of great elegance and rarity, appears very bright and decorative, easily placeable in various environments, also thanks to its contained dimensions. In good condition, it shows some marble fractures, repaired in modern times.
