Pair of wall sconces in chased, burnished, and gilded bronze, French, early 19th century Measurements: cm H 42 x W 30 x D 18 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity. Elegant pair of French wall sconces crafted from chased, burnished, and gilded bronze, from the Empire period, in the early 19th century. Almost unique finds on the antique market, they are indeed particularly rare in their shape and design. With three lights, they are characterized by a refined central stem in the shape of an elongated amphora from which three sinuous arms in burnished bronze depart with harmonious movement, creating a very sophisticated chromatic contrast with the warm gilding of the body. The arms, worked in leafy volutes, support cups and candle holders in gilded bronze engraved with motifs of leaves and palmettes, now fitted with electrified faux candles, which preserve the atmosphere of wax light while making them practical and contemporary. The central body's vase, finely chased, terminates at the bottom with a fluted section and a small tapered foot. The lower part is enriched with a palmette and flower pendant that elongates the vertical line and lends dynamism to the silhouette, making each sconce not just a light source but a true decorative architectural element. The upper vase, on the other hand, features two handles and a trumpet neck, from which emerges, also in gilded bronze, a flame topped by round clouds of smoke symbolically reminiscent of the light of the candles. On the back of the vase, a punch with the initials "L.B." alongside a small fleur-de-lis is preserved, the mark of an 19th-century French bronze worker, a detail that adds collectible charm. Overall, the warm gilding, the burnishing of the arms, and the play of shadows achieved through chasing give these wall sconces great decorative appeal and charm, perfect for living rooms, dining rooms, or hallways, usable in pairs or individually, complementing both antique and modern furnishings.
